Toothache

We see many patients who, when encountered with dental ache, immediately take over-the-counter pain killers. This may relieve the pain only temporary but won’t solve the problem, especially in case of swelling or pus around the tooth or if they develop fever. The problem can be an abscess which is a more serious problem that may require antibiotics or other treatments. The right way to deal with dental ache is to rinse your mouth with warm water, floss to remove food caught between teeth and take an emergency dental appointment to let a dental professional solve your problem permanently and efficiently.

Stained Teeth

Staining can result from food, medication, tobacco coffee or trauma. The only way to remove stains from your teeth is through a proper dental cleaning, polishing and whitening by the dentist. Dental whitening can either by done in the dental office by the dentist using special whitening agent and light or at home under supervision of the dentist who can give you plastic trays and whitening gel for home use. The dentist will instruct you for using whitening toothpaste and mouth rinses which will help in removing surface stains for longer period.

Cavities

Dental cavities are caused by bacteria which stick to the teeth surfaces causing their demineralisation and subsequent loss. Teeth decay starts with the plaque buildups over teeth followed by slow destruction of the outer layers (enamel) and the deeper layers (dentin). It is even worse when tooth decay occurs at the gum line and around the edges of previous fillings. The scope of preventive dentistry is to stop teeth cavitation and to maintain good gum health. We provide our patients with preventive care programme designed especially for each patient according to the risk of developing teeth decay. Brushing at least twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, dental flossing and mouth rinsing and keeping up regular dental appointments are all keys for preventive dental care. In some cases, we need to analyse the patient’s diet and eating habits to understand how the nature of food and timings of eating can influence teeth decay. For children, we apply special fluoride medication, known as sealants to keep away cavitation bacteria.

Broken, chipped or cracked teeth

This is a common dental injury. Depending on the size and location of the fractured or chipped part of a tooth, a dental treatment will be delivered. For example, big fractured portions of teeth may indicate that the pulp is at risk, and thus a root canal therapy followed by a veneer or crown are indicated. Otherwise, if the fracture was only small, this would probably indicate that the tooth can be treated with a filling. The size and extension of chipped tooth are usually determined by dental X-ray. Cracked tooth is another common injury that results from playing sports without a mouth protector. It can also be a consequence of biting hard objects. Management of cracked tooth also relies on a number of factors including whether the tooth is sensitive to hot and cold or not. It is also important to assess if the crack passes through the root so that the dentist can decide either to treat the tooth or to remove it.

Impacted Tooth

In many cases, we see adult patients with permanent tooth that does not appear in the mouth. This is what we call "impacted" and happens when 1 tooth or more are stuck against the bone the gum or other teeth. The dentist and patient can decide how to manage an impacted tooth, depending on the implications of leaving it in place. If the impacted tooth hurts or causes problems later on, it would be decided to remove it. If the impacted tooth leaves the patient with a space, especially in the front area, it would be decided to bring it in place using braces. Other alternatives can be decided upon the implications of the impacted tooth.

Teeth sensitivity

Teeth sensitivity, especially too cold, can be due to many factors such as cavities, worn teeth surfaces, inadequate fillings or exposed roots. The dentist should first figure out the cause of sensitivity, and plan treatment accordingly, then apply some desensitizing gel to reduce the sensitivity.

Why do I need Invisalign?

Invisalign, like braces, is not just for kids. Straightening crooked teeth is a key part of relieving symptoms like jaw pain. Invisalign is also essential for cosmetic dentistry, that is, to enhance the facial and dental appearance. For example, Invisalign can be used alone or in combination with porcelain veneers to to close the gaps between front teeth. Invisalign treatment is provided only by certified dental professionals who have training and experience in cosmetic and functional dentistry.

Gum bleeding

Gum bleeding, tenderness recession from teeth are common problems that denote gum inflammation. Gum disease (gingivitis) is caused by the buildup of plaque and the accumulation of bacteria below the gum. When left untreated, it can turn into a worse condition, known as periodontitis, which can lead to bone loss, teeth loosening or teeth loss. At Violife, we make sure that we make proper and complete assessment of the gum health through measuring the depth of the cuffs around the teeth (known as dental pockets). The pockets may vary in depth from 1 to 5 mm and may differ from 1 tooth to another for the same patient. The higher pocket depth, the more necessity to perform dental cleaning and gum therapy. Additional ways for maintaining gum health include brushing, flossing and oral rinsing.

Teeth grinding

Teeth grinding and clenching have many reasons and forms. They can be severe and thus massive teeth destruction occur, in what is called as bruxism. Stress is a common cause of grinding, but misaligned teeth can also be culprit among adults. Bruxism can cause headache, painful jaws and cracked or loose teeth. Patients with bruxism or teeth grinding usually attend dental practice seeking a mouth guard to help stop grinding. However, although mouth guard is a useful tool, the patient will sill likely need proper diagnosis through functional analysis of the teeth and jaws and well-tailored treatments such as physiotherapy for the facial muscles.

Wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth, or third molars, come into the mouth by the age around 17 and 25 years. However, around 90% of people get at least one problematic wisdom tooth. The most common problem with wisdom teeth is impaction, that is, the teeth are not able to fully grow in. Partially impacted wisdom teeth can develop cavities or can cause damage of the surrounding teeth and gum inflammation. Patients with completely or partially impacted wisdom teeth should have regular checkup visits with their dentist in order to track their movement or progress. In many cases, wisdom teeth can be as problematic as they may need to be removed.
