Periodontitis is a chronic disease of the gum that affects more than half of the population. The connective tissue is slowly destroyed by bacteria. As a consequence, the periodontal apparatus (tooth bed) is at risk of gradually losing its function. The jaw bones can be attacked, and there is tooth loss in the final stages.
Although symptoms can include red and swollen gums, bleeding gums and bad breath, symptoms are not always clearly evident. With modern technical instruments and aids, we can create an individual treatment plan, measure the depth of your periodontal pockets, and very accurately determine the state of your gum disease.
Optimal oral hygiene requires removing “biofilm” from the periodontal pockets. This is either done mechanically or with the help of the “Slimline” method, a painless technique that allow us to reach the depths of the pockets. The advantage is obvious: The surrounding tissue is protected, and you can relax during the treatment.
The Slimline method is extremely effective at removing deposits and the focus of inflammation from the surface of both the tooth and the root.
The probe-like, delicate and anatomical shape of the ultrasound instruments allows many areas to be cleaned, some of which cannot be reached with other tools. The gentle ultrasonic vibrations crush the plaque and tartar and separate them from the tooth. Even bacteria are destroyed by the ultrasonic waves.
Regular professional exams in our practice and consistent hygiene at home are the prerequisites for maintaining the health of your gums. Chronic gum disease necessitates regular check ups in our office.
